Outdoor cooking and grilling fuel

Finding the right fuel for your grill

From pellets to smoky charcoal, finding the right fuel for your grill is key to flavorful success. Not sure which grilling fuel to choose? Learn more about different grill types and fuels to see which is right for you, and you will be flipping finger-licking food in no time.

Charcoal grills

Nothing beats the smoky flavor of meat cooked on a classic charcoal grill. Charcoal can come in a few forms, including briquettes and lump charcoal. Each of these fuel mediums burns at different rates and produces varying levels of heat. Therefore, it is key to select the fuel source that best suits your outdoor cooking needs.

  •  Briquettes: Briquettes tend to be less costly than lump charcoal and burn for longer periods of time. However, they can take longer to light and produce a large amount of ash.
  • Lump charcoal: Natural lump charcoal burns hot, ignites quickly and produces less mess. That said, lump charcoal tends to be more expensive and burn at faster rates than the alternatives.

Pellet grills

Pellet grills typically rely on wood pellets to fuel their flame. There are two primary forms of pellet types: natural wood and artificial. Wood pellets emit a hardy essence, while artificial pellets offer a flavorful twist. Ultimately, pellet grills infuse dishes with a distinctly rich and woody flavor that only the pellets can provide. Tractor Supply’s array of wood chip offerings are perfect for your next backyard barbeque.

Gas grills

Gas grills use propane or natural gas as fuel for cooking. Grills that use gas as their fuel source are known for their user-friendly nature, easy maintenance and quick heat-up times. At Tractor Supply, we sell propane refills by the gallon at many of our stores so you can be ready for a barbeque bash at a moment’s notice.

No matter what grilling fuel you need, we have the products you need to get the job done. Stop by your local Tractor Supply store to browse our selection, or shop online today!
