Wild Bird Feeders and Accessories
Turn your yard into a bird watching sanctuary with wild bird feeders from Tractor Supply. With the right feed and bird feeders, you can have all kinds of birds flocking to your yard, from woodpeckers and orioles to doves and finches, so you can enjoy spectacular at-home bird watching. Because not all bird species are attracted to the same feed and feeder, you may want to keep in mind the kinds of birds you wish to attract when purchasing bird feeders and installing them within your outdoor spaces.
Find The Right Feeder for Your Backyard Birds
Tube Feeders: A tube feeder is the most traditional and basic of bird feeders. As the name implies, tube feeders feature bird seed that is encased by a tube made of metal or mesh; these tubes are perfect for drawing in all kinds of birds. With a small tray at the bottom that collects excess bird seed and acts as a perch, tube feeders are a great and simple option for both beginner and expert bird watchers.
Suet Feeders: These feeders encase suet blocks, a combination of seed, fruits, nuts and beef fat. Suet is highly attractive to birds during the fall and winter months when birds are most in need of warmth. Suet feeders should be hung at least 6 feet off the ground and in a shady location, as heat can cause the cakes to spoil.
Ground Feeders: To appeal to birds such as sparrows, doves and goldfinches, consider installing a ground feeder. This style of feeder is installed directly into the ground and can be highly attractive to birds who prefer to eat on a stable surface.
Nectar Feeders: If you wish to see a hummingbird buzzing by your house as you drink your morning coffee, then a nectar feeder is perfect for you. These feeders are commonly known as hummingbird feeders and are filled with sweet nectar that is dispensed through straw-like tubes perfect for hummingbird beaks.
Thistle Feeders: A thistle feeder resembles that of a typical bird feeder. However, the holes in the mesh netting that encase the bird seed are much smaller, which can appeal to small-beaked birds, such as finches, and prevent larger birds from eating the feed.
Hopper Feeders: Give the birds in your backyard a home and a nice meal with hopper feeders. Hopper feeders resemble a house and feature exterior landing platforms and trays for the birds to land on while they peck away at their delicious meal. Hopper feeders are best for adding some curb appeal to your home and attracting a diverse array of birds to your yard.
Bird Feeder Quick Tips
For the best of backyard flocks, you should give great attention to where you place your bird feeders with your outdoor spaces. It is recommended to place bird feeders about 10 feet apart when possible, as not all birds like to eat together. Additionally, installing bird feeders at staggering heights and including a wide variety of feed throughout your feeders appeals to the widest array of birds. Lastly, and most importantly, keep your bird feeders clean by regularly refreshing the seed and cleaning the feeder with warm soap and water, as bird feed can grow bacteria and become spoiled if left unattended for too long.
