Pressure relief valves open to allow transmission fluid to flow if the filter medium becomes too saturated. This valve protects the transmission from fluid starvation. An anti-drain valve prevents fluid from emptying from the filter when the transmission is off. This feature is important so that the transmission receives sufficient fluid when started. An anti-drain valve reduces transmission wear that can occur due to insufficient fluid on start up.
