The Van Zyverden Sieboldiana Elegans Hostas are a big, bold specimen variety from Japan. They grow big, heart-shaped, bluish leaves with off white flowers in the summer. They received the Royal Horticultural Society Award of garden Merit in 1913. These beautiful plants are not grown for their flowers but for their foliage, which are prettier than the flowers. They come in a spectrum of blues, golds, greens, yellows, and whites as well as variegated, some speckled, and others striped. They thrive in the shade, even though they can withstand some sun, are long-lived, and low-maintenance. Many hosta varieties have seasonal color, or can change color depending on growing conditions.
