Banamine Injectable Solution's main ingredient is Flunixin meglumine. This product is intended for use as an inflammation and pain relief product for cattle and horses. It has antipyretic properties, and is an NSAID, or a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug class.

Special Precautions

For Horses: It has not been determined if BANAMINE Injectable Solution has an effect on pregnancy. Likewise, no studies have been conducted to determine if this product can be given with other drugs concomitantly. For patients who need adjunctive therapy, closely monitor drug compatibility.

For Cattle: There has been no investigation into the reproductive effects of this product; do not administer to breeding bulls. This is an NSAID, and drugs in this class have shown both estrous and partnutrition cycle effects.

NSAIDs have shown a tocolytic effect that could delay parturition.

If administered in the prostaglandin phase of estrous cycle, there could be a delay in estrus onset for flunixin.

If administered immediately postpartum, NSAIDs could interfere with fetal membrane expulsion and involution of the uterine area.

If you use Banamine Injectable Solution in the 24 hours following parturition, monitor cows closely for retention of the placenta.

Side Effects

There are isolated reports of horses with reactions that are local following neck injection that is intramuscular.

These reactions include:

• Stiffness
• Induration
• Sweating
• Localized swelling

There have also been rare reports of anaphylactic-like reactions in cattle and horses. Some reactions were fatal. These instances occurred namely after use that is intravenous.

There are also rare situations where horses develop nonfatal or fatal clostridial infections or other infections. This is primarily in relation to flunixin meglumine use that is intramuscular.

Storage

Store in a dry and cool environment. 36° and 86°F (2° and 30°C).
