Q: Do you need to prime bare metal like the Cast iron on tractors and the Hood panel.fenders etc or just good prep and spray it on .
3 years ago1 Answer
- A: per the manufacturer: All surfaces that you want to paint with Majic Paint need to be primed first. When you prime, remember to prime with a light color, and for tractors, it's usually best to apply at least three coats of primer.3 years agoHelpful?
Q: How do I make it very glossy
3 years ago1 Answer
- A: Majic Tractor, Truck & Implement Enamels dry to a high gloss finish (> 80 @ 60°}, but true to all oil/alkyd coatings, that gloss level will tone down to a softer gloss over time, depending on exposure. To maintain the highest gloss possible, you may apply a coat of Majic Clear Coat High Gloss Lacquer (after final coat of Enamel has cured for a minimum of 2 weeks). Majic Clear Coat dries to a high gloss finish that provides a greater depth-of-image (DOI) and protects the Enamel finish appearance from the damaging effects of UV light. One other alternative is to periodically apply a good quality automotive high gloss wax finish (as needed) to restore gloss and protect color.3 years agoHelpful?
Q: After addition of catalyst and reduction with reducer, what air pressure is recommended if using a conventional sprayer?
3 years ago1 Answer
- A: Of course, much is going to depend on your equipment – and you own personal preferences - but pressure @ between 30-35 psi is generally what’s necessary to atomize product to spray… for the Tractor & Implement Finish Enamels, a 1.4 mm needle is usually recommended (1.6 mm for primers and matte finishes) – reduce product (with Majic Reducer) @ 8:1 (8 parts Majic T&I Enamel to 1 part Majic Reducer), and the ratio for Catalyst Hardener = 16:1. Both the Hardener & Reducer may be added to the product to be sprayed – though I usually recommend to add the Catalyst Hardener first, and thoroughly mix into the Enamel with a flat paddle. Allow the mixture to set, undisturbed, for 20-30 minutes – then add the appropriate amount of Reducer to the mix. Mix thoroughly and begin spraying. Do not Catalyze more product than can be applied in an 8 hour period of time, and be sure to apply product in very thin coats, and allow to dry 24 hours (minimum) before recoating.3 years agoHelpful?
Q: Is this the Blue used on 2000+ tractors or the earlier blue

- A: It can be used on all tractors.3 years agoHelpful?
Q: If I brush or roll it on, do I need to add anything to it, or just have at it? EX: Hardener, Catalyst, etc.
4 years ago1 Answer
- A: Majic Tractor & Implement Enamels may be applied by brush, roll or spray – but it’s important to note that the same application caveats remain the same… Thin coats, and 24 hours to dry between coats. When brushing, we recommend the product be thinned, with Majic Reducer at about a 10% ratio. Doing so accomplishes 2 things, (1) it helps to control the applied thickness of the coating. Majic T&I Enamels are high in solids content and can be spread too heavily without reduction, and (2) because these products are high in solids content, without reduction you may experience un-necessary brush lines, or roller texture. Reducing with Majic Reducer helps the film with “flow & leveling” to minimize, or eliminate application texture. The product should be applied at approximately 2.5-3.0 mils wet, or roughly the thickness of a sheet of notebook paper. Remember that too heavy an application, and/or re-coating too soon may disrupt the curing process and leave the film “soft” for several days…or longer. Regarding Majic Catalyst Hardener: Majic Catalyst Hardener is an option additive to this product line. Majic T&I Coatings will dry very hard even without the Hardener, but benefit will be realized by the addition of the Catalyst Hardener. Film hardness increases by as much as 30%, which provides greater abrasion resistance to the film, and Catalyst Hardener will also accelerate the “curing” time of the applied film by as much as 40%....This will not change the “dry-to-touch” time, nor the allowable “re-coat” time (of 24 hours), but the film will reach it’s ultimate hardness and adhesion as much as 7-10 days sooner than the product applied without Catalyst Hardener.4 years agoHelpful?
Q: How many gallons would be needed for a small work truck?
4 years ago1 Answer
- A: Majic Tractor, Truck & Implement Enamel is a high solids, hard-drying, industrial oil/alkyd coating. When applied according to package directions, the theoretical spread rate is 652 square feet per gallon (theoretical does not make allowances for waste - if spraying, a realistic waste allowances is between 15-20%, so the actual spread will be near 520 - 550 square feet per gallon). This is based on application at 2.5 mils wet (roughly the thickness of a sheet of notebook paper). 2 coats are generally recommended, with a minimum of 24 hours to dry between coats.4 years agoHelpful?
