As beautiful as the Ann Magnolia tree's blooms are, it's a great addition to your landscape even when it's not in season as the ornamental tree maintains an attractive mounded shape all year round! The ann magnolia bush, also called ann saucer magnolias or lily magnolias, is one of our favorites that flourishes across the United States.

- Ann magnolias grow at a slow to moderate rate and can increase in height by 13 to 24 inches every year. You can help an Ann magnolia tree grow faster by adding mulch, like shredded bark or straw, to help keep the roots cool and encourage growth.
- Ann magnolia is not evergreen. Actually, Ann magnolia trees are deciduous although they do bloom later than other varieties of magnolia, which helps the flower buds avoid damage in the cold winter.
- Ann Magnolias usually bloom mid to late March. Ann Star Magnolia Trees have goblet-shaped flowers that are lightly fragrant and may periodically repeatedly bloom in mid-summer. Purple-red flowers appear even during early spring frosts! The flower blossoms have 7-9 petals. The medium green leaves unfurl and turn yellow in fall before shedding for winter. Ann magnolias fall color is another appeal to growers in colder states with a more prominent winter.
- The best time to plant Ann magnolia trees is in late fall or winter, if you're in a warmer climate, or early spring. Plant these purple flowering magnolia when they are dormant to avoid damaging them.
- The compact size of these landscaping plants allow them to fit anywhere your lawn or garden may need them
- Grows best in USDA growing zones 4-9 and can be grown across most of the United States. Very cold hardy. Be sure to water well the first year of planting to establish a strong root system. A slow-release fertilizer at the top of the root ball will help in the early spring growing season.
