Q: I have 5 chickens,how much feed? Per week?
10 months ago- A: Hello, thank you for your question. A typical laying hen eats about 1/4 to 1/3 pound of feed per day. If each chicken consumes around 1/4 to 1/3 pound of feed per day, 5 chickens would eat approximately 1.25 to 1.67 pounds of feed daily. Based on these numbers and depending on the daily consumption for each individual hen, you will likely need somewhere around 9-11 lbs. per week.10 months agoHelpful?
Q: Can i feed this to both hen and rooster
10 months ago- A: For roosters, it's best to use Purina Flock Raiser. Roosters do not need the extra calcium found in layer feeds like Layena Pearls. In fact, feeding them a layer feed can shorten their lifespan and reduce their fertility, which would be counterproductive if you are trying to breed your birds.10 months agoHelpful?
Q: What type of feed can i feed my hens and roosters thst i keep together
11 months ago- A: For hens, we recommend using a layer feed such as Layena. Layena is specifically formulated to meet the calcium and other vitamin and mineral requirements of laying hens, ensuring they have everything they need for healthy egg production. For roosters, it's best to use Purina Flock Raiser. Roosters do not need the extra calcium found in layer feeds like Layena. In fact, feeding them a layer feed can shorten their lifespan and reduce their fertility, which would be counterproductive if you are trying to breed your birds. Feeding two different diets to a mixed flock can indeed be a challenge. Here are a few strategies you might consider: 1. Separate Feeders: If you have standard size birds, you can place a separate feeder with Flock Raiser at a height that only the rooster can reach. This way, the hens will stick to the Layena feed, while the rooster will have access to the Flock Raiser. 2. Nutrient Needs: Chickens tend to eat to meet their nutrient requirements. With both Flock Raiser and Layena available, the hens will likely consume Layena to get the calcium they need for egg production, while the rooster will prefer Flock Raiser due to its lower calcium content. 3. Oyster Shell Feeder: Another option is to feed everyone Flock Raiser and provide a separate feeder with oyster shell for the hens. This will allow the hens to get the extra calcium they need without affecting the rooster. I hope these suggestions help you manage your flock's feeding needs effectively.11 months agoHelpful?
Q: How long will this last for 4 chickens
a year ago- A: Hello, thank you for your question. A typical laying hen eats about 1/4 to 1/3 pound of feed per day. If each chicken consumes around 1/4 to 1/3 pound of feed per day, 4 chickens would eat approximately 1 to 1.33 pounds of feed daily. Based on these numbers and depending on the daily consumption for each individual hen, the 25 lb. bag might last approximately 19-25 days for 4 hens.a year agoHelpful?
Q: What makes this feed not good for roosters and would it hurt my rooster if he was to eat it with my hens?
a year ago- A: The calcium level and other vitamin and mineral levels in Layena meet the requirements of the laying hen. Your roosters should be on Purina Flock Raiser. Those guys don’t need all of the extra calcium in Layena. If you continue to feed a layer feed to your roosters, then you are going to shorten their life span and reduce their fertility, which defeats the purpose of trying to breed the birds.a year agoHelpful?
