More absorbent easier to clean

Tractor Supply offers three bedding choices. Pellets, large flake shavings and finer shavings.
The large flake shavings do not absorb urine and are extremely difficult to clean.The finer shavings are more absorbant and are much easier to pick through and remove soiled bedding. Pellets are okay for a couple of days but get very,very dusty being the horses crush them and the pellets break down to dust.

what have you done to them?

I have used these for several years... used to be smaller, fluffy, and absorbent. In the past few months they became flakes. They are not at all absorbent and the urine just sits on the matts in my stalls. In the past month I have found large wood chucks in each bag. NOT suitable for horse bedding.

I’ve been using this as bedding in my Eglu Cube tray for a few years. It does a great job and no bag has ever smelled stale or moldy. Going through a lot more this winter because my hens decided to molt and then molt again. Molt poops are wet and runny but this bedding soaks up the wetness very well. I tried the bigger rolled flakes but this works better for my needs.
